- Summary
Government is looked at in terms of democracy and the United States Constitution. The Constitution placed sovereignty in a central government above the states (although they argued that it was really a shared sovereignty). The battle to pass the Constitution was a heated argument, with Patrick Henry a staunch believer in state sovereignty. The Federalist verses the Anti-Federalist argued their case in the press. The Constitution passed, but it was close. The Anti-Federalist made some valid arguments, which have relevance today. A number of issues are given; slavery, electoral college, tyranny of the majority, etc.
